Lunar Eclipse

Our class is excited about the chance to get up early on a Saturday to see a lunar eclipse. We've been learning about the moon phases in science, so this is excellent timing!

The Stone Soup Summary

Enjoy our summary of Stone Soup!

Stone Soup is a story about monks who make stone soup and it brings a village together. Three monks went into a village. They noticed that everyone was hiding and nobody would greet them or talk to them. A brave, little girl came out to greet them. The monks started to make stone soup. Then, some villagers came out to help them make soup. Everyone started to pitch in and help make soup. They added tons of ingredients like winter melon. At the end, they had a banquet meal. The villagers realized that sharing leads to happiness.

Grandfriend's Day Recap

We had a lot of visitors in 3-4 last week! It was great that so many Grandfriend's were able to stop by and visit us at school. The students had a great time interviewing them and were able to spend some time this week writing a paragraph about why their Grandfriend is special to them. Click on the comments below to read all about it!

CA$H OUT

Another great site that is perfect for this week. Use CA$H OUT to play the game and figure out how much money you owe. I like this one because the coins look real! Try the strategy of subtracting from the amount the customer is giving or count up from the cost of the item. Start with the EASY level and click on NO for Show Change Amount!

Busy week ahead!

We have a busy week ahead of us, but many fun things as well! Last week, we spent much of our time getting to know each other and figuring out how we are going to work together this year. This week the class will get to practice all that they learned when we dig into the curriculum. Students will bring home red homework folders each Monday. Please check the folders and read the note that explains what to do each week.

In other news, check out what was delivered to us on Friday afternoon!

I didn't realize how much I used the SmartBoard to teach until I didn't have one. Thank you to Mrs. Swanson for getting our classroom one so quickly! A couple of boys asked me if they could try to install it themselves. Tempting, but no! It should be up and running by the end of the week!

Monday afternoon we have our first character assembly and Friday is already the Wolf Ridge fundraiser kick-off!

Looking forward to a fun week!

First Day!

We had a terrific first day in 3rd grade. We started to get to know each other by doing a scavenger hunt!

The class spent some time organizing their desks and labeling folders...and smiling!

We went on a walk with Mrs. Swanson and she showed us the playground boundaries and told us all about the new equipment.

Later, we spent some time coming up with responsibilities for the school year!

Please check your child's backpack for a note with a few reminders for tomorrow!

Summer Souvenir Sharing

Each morning our class will have a morning meeting which consists of 4 parts: greeting, sharing, activity, news/announcements. I'd like to invite each student to participate in the sharing for this week! Please bring in a small souvenir (postcard, seashell, shirt, etc...) to show the class. You are also welcomed to tell a story about what you did! We will have 5 or 6 students share each morning.
I am looking forward to hearing about the summer fun!

A good night!

It was great to see so many students and families at open house last night! We got lots of comments on our view from 209. I think the kids were more excited about the new playground than anything else!

I'm looking forward to Tuesday and seeing all of the students together! Remember to fill out the forms and send them back to school. If you weren't able to make it to Open House, I will send them home with your son/daughter on Tuesday.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Welcome 3rd graders!

I am looking forward to teaching 3rd grade this year! After 8 years (wow!) in Kindergarten, I am excited to learn with the older students. We have a lot to talk about and learn once school starts! We'll be working hard each day to make sure that everyone in our classroom is participating and having fun. The students will become aware of what they need to learn and how they can best learn so that they are having fun at school! The students and I will be working together on how we can use technology to keep us connected to others who are learning just like us. It's going to be a great year for TEAM Schneider :)
