Math - We will be taking a little break from our unit on fractions and will get back into it once MCA testing is over :)  We will also be jumping around in unit 13 (Measurement), I want to make sure I touch on a few skills that will be on the MCA's.
Students will:
13.1 - Measure with non-standard and standard units.  Use rulers to draw line segments to a given number of inches.
13.2 - Convert between yards, feet and inches.
13.3 - Discuss metric units of length.  Measure to the nearest meter, decimeter, and centimeter.
13.10 - Read temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit on a thermometer, discuss warm and cold benchmarks, and estimate temperatures.

Math - Extension Lessons - Our math curriculum has some really good lessons that are meant for the end of the year, but we are going to fit them in early and will then get to Unit 11 (Fractions) in a couple of weeks.

E.1 - Compare and order numbers up to 10,000.  Add, subtract, and compare with large numbers.
E.2 - Model a product of ones, ones and tens, and tens.
E.3 - Understand patterns of multiplication with ones, tens and hundreds.
E.4 - Represent one-digit by two-digit multiplication using area models.

Reading - Unit 7, Week 2 - Genre Study - Fairy Tales
Students will:
* Learn the features of fairy tales
* Read and analyze a fairy tale
* Compare and contrast two fairy tales using a graphic organizer

We'll spend a couple of days reviewing Unit 9 concepts and math facts and will take the unit test on Thursday.

Science - We will begin our Structures of Life unit in science.  The first investigation will have the students observe and compare properties of seeds and fruit.  We will also set up seed sprouters and monitor and record the changes over the next two weeks.

* Understand that inflected endings are added depends on the vowel pattern in the final syllable
* Recognize base words in multi - syllable words.
* Recognize vowel patterns and understand how to add inflected endings

Writing - This week we will begin talking about Informational Reports.  The students have started researching a mammal with Mr. Lhotka in Media and will eventually create a report based on their research.

Reading - This week our genre study is on Realistic Fiction.  Students will review the features of realistic fiction and analyze a realistic fiction story.

Word Study - Students will understand that VCCCV pattern words can be VC/CCV or VCC/CV syllable patterns.  They will understand that VC/CCV words divide before the consonant blend.  They will understand that VCC/CV words divide after the consonant blend.

Math - Multiplication!
7.1 - Explore patterns in 5's count-bys.  Learn important multiplication vocabulary.
7.2 - Use multiplication to represent repeated groups situations.
7.3 - Use multiplication to represent array situations.
7.4 - Relate division to multiplication.
7.5 - Explore patterns in 2's count-bys.

Social Studies - Students will put any finishing touches on their Ellis Island projects and get them printed out.
